Rentals are available for a full day only and are available for pick up as soon as the shop opens and are due back 1 hour before the shop closes. Please note that rental durations are based on a day rate that is defined by an end-of-day return. A bike rented for one day is picked up and dropped off on the same day. If a two-day rental is selected, the bike needs to be dropped off by the end of the second day. A rental "day" is not a 24-hour period from the time of pick up. There will be a $75 late fee for any bike returned after the shops business hours. Early pick up is available the evening before for $25 / bike. Early pick up must be requested at least 24 hours in advance and can be picked up 1 hour before the shop closes. Reservations changed without 48-hour notice will be a charge a %10 fee. Walk in rentals are offered based on availability and will incur a $10 charge.
We do not provide rentals for any race or event.
Our area gets a lot of rain and is considered a temperate rainforest. As good stuart of the trail Earth Mountain Bicycle reserves the right to cancel or change reservations based off of current trail conditions. We understand that this might be both disappointing and inconvenient when you’ve made a reservation in advance. We will contact you with as much time in advance to either reschedule or refund your bike reservation.
Rental bikes are to be picked up and dropped off at our location at 66 E. Main St. in downtown Brevard. It is the customer’s responsibility to transport the bike appropriately. We have hitch racks available for rent but keep in mind that a 2” or 1.5” hitch must be currently installed on your vehicle. We also have tail gate pads available for rent! Strapping the bike to your car without appropriate equipment is not allowed. Any damage to the bike incurred while it is in the customer’s possession is the customer’s financial responsibility. This includes while in transport to and from the trail. There are several guides in the area that can help with the transport of your bike! Let us know if you would like to get in contact with them. Depending on availability transport to DuPont and Pisgah National Forest may be offered. Please call 48 hours in advance to organize this with our rental department.
Earth Mountain Bicycle is not responsible for assisting with any technical problems while you’re out on the trail. Having an issue with a flat or technical difficulty? Swing it by the shop and we will do our best to get you back on the trail or road ASAP!
Bikes are equipped with one bottle cage, pedals of your choosing, and a helmet that are all included with your rental. Flat packs, maps, and water bottles are also available for purchase or rent. We highly recommend buying a map or hiring a guide for the best experience possible if you are not familiar with the area.
Please do not leave bikes unattended at any point of your rental span.
***PLEASE NOTE*** Electric bicycles have motors and are considered motor vehicles under the U.S. Forest Service Travel Management Rule. E-bikes can include pedal assist and throttle twist varieties and are only allowed on roads and trails designated for motorized use. These roads and trails (including off-highway vehicle trails) are identified on Motor Vehicle Use Maps available at Ranger District offices and online at https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/nfsnc/maps-pubs.
North Carolina Forest Service rules classify all e-bikes (including pedal-assist) as motorized vehicles and only allow them on forest roads that are open to the general public. DuPont State Forest does not currently have any forest roads open to public vehicles.
There are other options in the area for people who want to ride an e-bike. Pisgah National Forest has many miles of gravel roads that are open to cars, motorcycles, and e-bikes. Like DuPont, however, Pisgah National Forest does not allow e-bikes anywhere that a car is not allowed to go. Pedal-assist (class 1 e-bikes) are allowed at Ride Kanuga in Hendersonville, NC, and all e-bikes are allowed on Fire Mountain in Cherokee, NC, and in Buffalo Creek Park in Lake Lure, NC.
